Hogarfax's energy performance certificate check is now part of the free exploration. When the official registry has a result, the report shows the property's rating, emissions and certificate date alongside the rest of the home's data.

What is an energy performance certificate?

An energy performance certificate describes a property's energy behaviour using an A-to-G rating. It includes indicators for non-renewable primary energy and CO₂ emissions, together with the certificate date. A rating is not a technical inspection, but it helps identify potentially high energy use and gives buyers better questions to ask.

Which date should you check?

The date tells you when the certificate you are reading was issued. It is not the construction date, the date of the latest renovation or the listing's publication date. If the certificate is old, ask about insulation, windows, heating, cooling and changes to the home's use.

What Hogarfax shows

  • The energy rating when it is on record.
  • The CO₂ emissions rating when available.
  • The certificate date.
  • The source and queried period, so you can see the actual scope of the data.
The energy certificate check is included in Hogarfax's free exploration. You do not need to buy an extra report to see it when a certificate is available in the queried registry.

Current coverage and limits

The automated lookup currently starts with the Region of Madrid's official energy certificate registry and the 2024–2026 period. If no certificate appears, that does not prove that one has never existed: it may belong to another year, another autonomous region or have no result in the queried source.

How to use it before buying

  • Compare the rating with the energy use described by the seller or tenant.
  • Ask what improvements have been made since the certificate date.
  • Check windows, insulation, orientation, heating and cooling during the viewing.
  • Request the full official document if the rating affects your decision or renovation plans.
