Wildfire risk at your property: check it for free anywhere in Spain (live map)

The wildfire declared in the mountains of Ávila has now burned around 50,000 hectares, making it the largest fire in Spain's history, and on 24 July it merged with two other active fires in the Sierra Oeste of the Community of Madrid into a single major wildfire that came to threaten El Escorial. Between Ávila, Madrid and Toledo, more than 75,000 hectares have burned and close to 90,000 people have been evacuated or confined over the past two weeks, with new municipalities such as Santa María de la Alameda (Madrid) and Las Navas del Marqués (Ávila) placed under confinement on 26 and 27 July. Nationally, 2026 is already close to 200,000 hectares burned — double the previous year — with at least 14 confirmed deaths, most of them in the severe wildfire in Los Gallardos (Almería) in early July. That's the context of a historic emergency — but the tool we've decided to open up for free and without registration isn't limited to Ávila and Madrid: it lets you check the wildfire risk of any property in Spain, alongside a live map of active fire, wind, temperature and news.

Check for free whether ANY property in Spain is at wildfire risk

Hogarfax analyses any property in Spain — a house, a plot or a commercial unit — by cross-referencing its exact plot against nearby forest cover, recent burnt areas and satellite-detected active fire. This check is completely free and requires no sign-up: just enter the address or the cadastral reference in the analyzer. For example, for a home in Fresnedillas de la Oliva (Madrid), the system detects within seconds «24 NASA FIRMS thermal hotspots roughly 666 metres away in the last few days» and that «the home is about 57 metres from forest cover (woodland), with a fuel model of pasture and scattered scrubland», flagging the wildland-urban interface as the factor that raises the alert level the most.

The same free check exists for two other risks on people's minds right now: whether a plot is in a flood zone (river or coastal) and whether it is exposed to seismic hazard. These are official data sources, cross-referenced against the exact plot, at no cost and with nothing to buy.

The live map: satellite active fire and burnt areas

On the active fires map we have opened up live, nationwide tracking, free and without registration, combining two independent satellite sources: NASA FIRMS thermal hotspots (VIIRS and MODIS satellites), updated several times a day and shown as pulsing red markers wherever fire is burning right now, and Copernicus EFFIS burnt-area perimeters, the European Earth-observation programme, with the date and hectares of each recent fire. It's the same map you'd see inside the paid report, now open so anyone can follow how the fire fronts in Ávila, the Sierra Oeste of Madrid and Toledo are evolving, at no cost.

A news aggregator from major outlets, with infinite scroll

Alongside the satellite map, we've added a news aggregator that brings together, on a single screen with infinite scroll, coverage from major outlets on the active wildfires: closed roads, confined or evacuated municipalities, how the fire fronts are progressing, and official updates. The idea is that you shouldn't need to jump between twenty tabs to get the full picture of what's happening in Ávila, Madrid or any other province with active fire: the map shows you where the fire is right now, and the news gives you the context and the decisions being made on the ground.

Live wind on the map: where the fire could spread next

In the past few days we've added a dynamic wind layer to the wildfire map, migrated to AEMET's models for greater accuracy, showing wind direction and intensity in real time and how it moves across the territory. You can see both the general wind for a region and the local wind around a specific municipality with active hotspots. Wind is, together with fuel dryness and terrain slope, the factor that most determines where a wildfire spreads next — it's what caused the Ávila fire and the Sierra Oeste of Madrid fire, kilometres apart, to end up merging into a single perimeter. Seeing wind direction on the map helps explain why one municipality is confined and the one next door isn't.

Temperature and humidity in municipalities with active fire

Alongside wind, the map now shows AEMET's hourly forecast — temperature, relative humidity and wind gusts — for every municipality with detected active hotspots. This is the classic extreme-fire-weather triangle: high temperatures, low relative humidity and strong, gusty wind drive extreme fire behaviour and make firefighting harder. Having these three data points — fire, wind and humidity — on the same map, free and updated several times a day, is what we wanted to make available to anyone while this wildfire wave continues.
